Testing STIHL pruners on cocoa trees for Sustainable Smallholder Agri-Business
- Jul 5, 2017
This video documents the testing of STIHL pruners on cocoa trees by the GIZ programme Sustainable Smallholder Agri-Business (SSAB) in Ghana.
Over the duration of one Man Day, a Service Provider experienced with manual pruners is taught how to use a STIHL pruner and tests the equipment in the field. The objective was to gain insight into the challenges connected to introducing motorized pruners into the management of cocoa farms in West Africa.
Using motorized equipment would provide rural Service Providers with a business advantage while increasing the efficiency of manual labor. In return, well managed and cared for cocoa farms generate a higher yield and would benefit the cocoa farmer with higher income and broader financial opportunities.
